Parent FAQs About Private Music Lessons

What are private lessons at Evergreen like?

1

Evergreen teachers instill “the big four” in every student: the repertoire (songs), the technique (how to sound good), the musicianship (how to draw, listen to, and appreciate music), and the performance skills (how to be on stage).

While an actual lesson’s content can vary widely from week to week, you can always expect us to foster a warm, patient, and motivating music learning experience for your child.

Do I need to stay on-site for my child’s lessons?

2

After your child completes their first lesson, you are more than welcome to run errands, take a walk around Historic Montgomery, or stay in our cozy waiting room to read a book or catch up on work!

Do we need an instrument to practice with at home?

3

Yes! Having your own instrument at home is crucial to growing your child’s enjoyment of music making and compounding the investment you’re making in lessons. Even if it’s a small 61-key touch-sensitive keyboard or your grandpa’s worn acoustic guitar, something (in good working condition) is better to start off lessons with than nothing!

What happens if my child needs to miss a class?

4

Your monthly tuition reserves your child’s time with their teacher for 44 lessons each year. We know that occasional absences are a part of life, so we intentionally schedule 5 additional lesson weeks annually to allow flexibility for illnesses, vacations, school events, and other commitments. Because these extra weeks are already built into the calendar, we do not offer makeups for private lesson student absences.

If your child ever needs to change their ongoing lesson time, or would like to switch teachers or instruments, we are more than happy to help you find another available time or teacher that works better for you!

When can I start?

You can start anytime you’d like - choose any teacher and an opening that works for you! If for any reason you don’t love Evergreen, you can cancel anytime with 30 days’ notice–there are no contracts or semester minimums.
