Music Explorers Classes
Ages 5 – 10
Music Explorers at Evergreen is a fun, welcoming first step into music, giving kids a strong foundation for whatever comes next – whether that's continuing with private piano, trying guitar or voice, or joining their school band or orchestra. Our game-based piano & music foundations class helps kids build real musical skills, with exploration of music theory, training their listening ears, playing games, getting creative, and enjoying learning alongside new friends. Music Explorers has helped Greater Cincinnati young musicians build the skills and enthusiasm to continue making music long after their first classes.
Building Life Skills Through Music
Through fun, age-appropriate musical challenges, kids in Music Explorers learn to focus, listen carefully, practice with purpose, and persevere when things get tricky. Our program helps kids build confidence, independence, performance skills, and learning habits that benefit them in school and everyday life.
A Track Record of Musical Success
The majority of our students since our group program began in 2023 have gone on to study music through their school ensembles or private lessons, with many also continuing into private lessons right here at Evergreen. It's a first musical experience that continues to inspire kids to keep going for years to come!
A Head Start on Any Instrument
There's a reason piano is usually the highest recommended first instrument to learn. Music Explorers teaches kids how to read traditional music notes for both hands using classics and “cool” music they’ll love, plus rhythm, music writing, music history, and ear training. Kids build a versatile musical foundation that prepares them for practically any instrument or genre they want to explore next.
Social Growth Through Play & Discovery
Beyond individualized piano work, children participate in crowd-pleasing musical games, creative exploration, and shared activities that encourage cooperation, turn-taking, communication, and friendship. They get to learn music and piano at their own pace, while enjoying the energy and encouragement of a small musical community.

Parent FAQs About Music Explorers
What are Music Explorers classes like?
1
Each class is 45 minutes long and meets once weekly. Each class has the same structure: first is individually paced piano time with teacher guidance, then musicianship and game time together.
Classes are designed to be uplifting, challenging, and fun! Each class has no more than 4 students, so no kid goes without extra teacher help whenever they need it.
Do I need to stay on-site for my child’s lessons?
2
After your child completes their first class, you are more than welcome to run errands, take a walk around Historic Montgomery, or stay in our cozy waiting room to read a book or catch up on work!
Does my child need to stay in Music Explorers until a particular level or age?
3
No! Whenever your child is ready for more personalized piano study or their next instrument, they can move into private lessons. We’re also here to help guide you toward the next step if they’re showing us signs that they’re ready. Keep in mind that some instruments generally don’t start students until a slightly older age, like voice.
What happens if my child needs to miss a class?
4
We can typically accommodate reschedule requests for students to make up as soon as possible, but makeups are never guaranteed with our small class sizes.
If your child ever needs to change their ongoing class time, we are more than happy to help you find another available class time that works better for you!
Does my child need a piano at home for Music Explorers?
5
No, we do not require students to have a piano or keyboard at home while they’re enrolled in Music Explorers classes! However, your child will enjoy classes even more by having an instrument at home as soon as possible, along with a simple practice routine.
If you’re interested in acquiring a piano, at least a 61-key, touch-sensitive keyboard in good working condition is recommended. We love Yamaha and Casio brands for keyboards.
You can start anytime you’d like - choose any class with an opening! If for any reason you don’t love Evergreen, you can cancel anytime with 30 days’ notice–there are no contracts or semester minimums.
