Take myself for example...I've always wanted to play the cello. So I rented a cello from a local strings store in December 2022, and I brought it home and played for a couple months with YouTube videos.
But then my schedule at the studio this semester got busy, my friends wanted to go on more outings with me, and I had additional responsibilities at home to care for. It's now summer 2023 and I've not touched my rented cello in several months! I feel bad because I spent money on the instrument and I still have a desire to get good at it. I tried a cello lesson subscription online, but it's difficult to start something new unless I have live support from a professional and weekly accountability to stick with it when life gets busy.
Here's the good news...we're not entirely to blame...it's the expectations and format of adult lessons today that need to change with our modern culture and expectations.
I'm scared to commit to lessons with a potentially strict, high-commitment-requiring cello teacher that has rigid studio policies to match, and that it will be harder than I thought to learn and embarrass myself in the process. I just want to do this for fun, and I don't want to be the next Yo-Yo Ma. I don't want a teacher constantly correcting me when I'd just be thrilled to eventually learn the notes to Bach's famous cello Prelude in G.

Life happens and you have to be flexible in a pinch, that's why I'm flexible for you too! Club members can cancel for any reason and reschedule that lesson with 24+ hours notice. Same day cancellations are available to reschedule due to illnesses and extenuating circumstances that might come up. You can drop into any open K.E.Y.S. Club class time to makeup!
